Lateral hip syndrome / Trochanteric bursitis treatment
Lateral hip syndrome is a common cause of pain in the hip region. Formerly known as Trochanteric bursitis, it is now recognised to be caused by a variety of musculoskeletal conditions that lead to overload of the muscles and tendons that pass the outer aspect of the hip. The key to successful treatment is diagnosis of the principal cause. Following a detailed clinical assessment, scans are often required to confirm the diagnosis. Treatment options include exercise advice; Pilates; physiotherapy; pain relieving anti-inflammatory injections; ultrasound therapy and surgery.
